ExploreIt’s just a few weeks away from Carnival season, or, as most of us know it better: Mardi Gras. Whether you’re living in New Orleans, taking a trip there for the holiday, or throwing a party at home, there’s so many ways to celebrate the crazy pre-lent season! The whole point is to go crazy, do what you want to do, be who you want to be, and have as much fun as you can.
Mardi Gras lands on February 28th this year, but the famous Mardi Gras parades start much earlier than that. Major parades begin as early as February 17th in New Orleans. We’re talking marching bands, sick costumes, floats, and masked riders tossing beads to parade-goers – the works! There really isn’t a better way to celebrate Mardi Gras than watching the parades.
The main Mardi Gras parade is being held in the Mid-City neighborhood the day-of Carnival. You can join the crowd for crazy-awesome barbecue, lots of booze, great music, and tons of fun. Or, if you’re like me and that sounds a little too people-y, you can stay at home and watch a live stream of the parade in the comfort of your living room, with all your favorite snacks and drinks (and nobody can judge your costume, either!). Local New Orleans news station WWLTV offers fantastic coverage of the event.
But, if you’re the kind of person who likes having their costume judged, then don’t forget to check out the Annual Bourbon Street Costume Contest.
