17 Oscar Themed T-Shirts: Going for the Gold!

by on Feb 14, 2017

Now that the little event with people running a ball up and down a field is over, we can focus on my equivalent to the Super Bowl: The Oscars. That night where Hollywood awards the best of the previous year’s films. There’s always some sure bets, lots of surprises and like in sports, you have that one film or artist you really want to win, even if the odds are stacked against them. For these kinds of events the planning is incredibly big, complements and design palette, accessories, special patterned table runner and more versatile options to complement the event.

Though there’s the usual amount of dramas going for the gold this year, it’s refreshing to also see a musical like La La Land and a heady science fiction film like Arrival in the mix. The nominated actors are a great list of familiar faces and newcomers. There are so many other aspects of the art of movies that are celebrated in this night: costuming, music and special effects, to name a few. There truly is something for everybody.

For this blog, I’m going to focus mostly on best actors and films. Yes, we’re excited that the likes of Justin Timberlake was nominated for his song. And my geek side is more attracted to the genre films that usual just get visual, sound and costuming nominations. Especially when I’m digging up t-shirts. But, believe it or not, there are lots of t-shirts for this years nominations.

So I guess the place to start is La La Land. The musical romp that shows just how difficult the artist life is here in Los Angeles. It’s already won a ton of awards, and many believe it’s got a good chance at the Oscar for Best Picture. Unfortunately, I’m one of those who do not think it was the best film. As much as I wanted to get into it, it did nothing for me. But I realize I’m in the minority. I do not wish it to win, but am happy to have it celebrated on Oscar night. And the movie certainly makes for some great t-shirt styles.

For me, one of the most refreshing films of the year was Arrival. A great science fiction mystery that had us on the edge of our seats. I agree that Amy Adams was robbed from being nominated. I have a bad feeling the film may not take the Best Picture trophy, probably a better chance of it getting Best Adapted Screenplay. Regardless of what it wins, there are many images from it that will go down in film history.

Most agree the strongest contender for Best Picture is Manchester By the Sea. As a North Shore of Massachusetts native, I’d be happy to see my home land get the gold. Casey Affleck is a top contender for Best Actor, and though I doubt she’ll win, but it was nice seeing Michelle Williams get a nomination.

That was not a dis to Michelle. But if there is one sure bet this year, it’s Viola Davis winning best supporting actress for Fences. And what a powerful actress. She pretty much took down the Avengers (her conversation with Tony Stark in Captain America Civil War started it all). And as we saw in Suicide Squad, she’s rules the DC Universe. So give that lady a statue, please!

As with sports, Oscars are never a sure thing. There were many fantastic movies and performances this past year. And they’re all getting a fair amount of Oscar buzz. So don’t count any of them out.

And keeping the politics out of it, it’s always great to see Meryl Streep breaking her own records. It was a great performance, as always, but she’s up against some tough competition. Still her character had some great words to live by:

And no Oscar blog would be complete without a shout out to the animated full-lengths. This may be another sure bet with Zootopia.

But Kubo and the Two Strings may surprise us.

So, plan your party. Set up your Oscar pool. And get ready for the other people’ll Superbowl. I’m sure there’s be many memorable moments. Like this one:
