What started out as the resurrection of an old World War II poster has now reached every corner of the globe. It all began when the owners of a small, family-owned bookstore in England found an old poster featuring the mantra and hung it up for display. It garnered so much interest that the store owner eventually started selling the posters. From there it went viral and people began coming up with their own spin-offs, and it went on to become the phenomenon it is today.
To get an idea of just how far reaching the “Keep Calm” phenomenon is today, just look at the the wide variety of websites, businesses, and even towns that have tried to cash in on the mantra. There’s the adaption by The Chive, “Keep Calm and Chive On”, there was Microsoft’s “Keep Calm and Hate Apple” campaign, and there’s even a tiny town in Utah that used the theme “Keep Calm and Visit Helper” as part of its arts renaissance promotion.
