I love science fiction, fantasy and superheroes. But unfortunately, my wife’s not really into any of it, so I have to defend a movie every time I want to watch it with her before she agrees to do it. But what’s the big deal, I love those kinds of movies for the same reason I love those kinds of books. They take me away into another world, another universe. A place where anything is possible. But ok, I guess not everybody finds that compelling enough, so here’s a few other reasons for you to like Superheroes.

You may not think so, but for me at least, comic books are a kind of an art form. People look at a comic book and they think it’s a kids thing. And it’s really kind of insulting to the artist who drew all those pages of pictures, as well as to the guy who wrote the story. It’s art. Maybe it’s not Picasso, but I never understood why anybody would pay thousands of dollars for something that looks like a 9 year old kid made anyway.

And the thing about fantasy, which is what superhero stuff is, when you break it down, is that (if it’s good), it sheds some light on the world we live in. It makes you see everything in a different way. Sure, the story is happening on a made up planet to some made up people who have powers that no man or woman ever had or will have, but it’s still a story about us in a way. People still have human reactions, and a good superhero movie will make you see the world in a new way.

And finally, superhero movies make us feel like we should all be better. They show you the world as the shit place that we made it, and then they show you that one person can actually make a difference. The problem is just that nobody tries. So don’t be ashamed of your superhero worship. It’s all a good thing. We need more people flaunting their inner geek. Which is why we’ve found these marvelous Superhero t-shirts below for you.
