2016 will be very full of superhero movies again. There’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in March, Captain America: Civil War, and X-Men: Apocalypse in May, Suicide Squad in August, Gambit in October, Doctor Strange, and Sinister Six in November. And then there’s Deadpool.
That’s a total of 8 superhero movies in 2016, which is kind of an overkill if you ask me. But I will definitely be going to the movies sometime soon after February 12th to see Deadpool. Forget Superman V Batman, don’t bother with Captain America, though you can give Suicide Squad a chance. Why? Because Deadpool is awesome. He’s cool in a way that no other superhero can even come close.
First of all, he’s the king of fourth wall breaks. That’s when the character is aware of the camera filming him (or in the case of Deadpool, he’s aware he’s in a comic book). That allows him to throw out a bunch of Deadpool-isms that no other superhero could possibly get away with. That means he’s a superhero everybody can enjoy. He makes refferences to things everybody cares about. Most people don’t know what the Civil war is, or even care about Justice League, but everyone has heard about Star Wars.
He’s also not your typical superhero. His heroic deeds are actually quite few, though they’re that much bigger when they do happen. He’s mainly just a guy who’s pretty much immortal, whom they wanted to turn into a superhero, but no one bothered to ask him. If they did, he’d probably tell them he’s not one, though his comment would have been much funnier than mine.
He’s very disfigured by a cancer that’s spread all over his body, but he doesn’t let that bring him down. He even uses it as a punchline. His main super power is very fast healing so why should it bother him? That’s one of the reasons why he’s so cool. Can you imagine a disfigured Superman? An ugly Superwoman? Me neither.
Still not convinced? Deadpool isn’t the obvious choice for anybody’s favorite superhero. 99 out of a 100 fanboys will always pick Batman, Superman or Spider-Man when you ask them. But if you’ve ever been to Comic con, you’ll definitely find him there. The reason for that it that he’s definitely the most fun superhero out there. Going dressed as Deadpool gives you the license to act like an idiot and offend everybody and everything out there, and who doesn’t have a fantasy about doing that once in a while?
All of that and more is the reason I think the best comedy of 2016 will be a superhero movie. I want it to succeed so that they can make him reach more people. We need more characters like Deadpool. People who don’t take themselves too seriously. That’s why I’ve collected a bunch of awesome Deadpool t-shirts here.
