20 Legend of Zelda T-Shirts: “Breath of the Wild” is Gonna Be Epic

by on Feb 20, 2017

So, Nintendo’s releasing its 19th installment of the Legend of Zelda.

It’s going to be epic.

The first time I ever played a Legend of Zelda game, it was the summer, I was probably about ten, and I played it on an old gamecube on loan from my brother’s best friend in front of a black box of a TV. I probably spent the entire summer on that game. The game was Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, and it will always have a special place in my nostalgia-ridden heart.

I’ve since played through many more installments of the Legend of Zelda. The story, the characters, the familiar settings and tropes – I’m not sure there’s a gamer alive who hasn’t been influenced somehow by a Legend of Zelda game and its trademarks.

And speaking of tropes and trademarks, Nintendo’s new Legend of Zelda game is set to break a few of them… in the best way possible. Let’s have a look at what Breath of the Wild has in store for its players.

Platform: Nintendo Switch, Wii U.

Storyline: Set in Hyrule, the story of Breath of the Wild begins when Link wakes up from a 100-year sleep. A mysterious voice tells him of an evil beast that destroyed Hyrule, a beast called “Calamity Ganon”. Calamity Ganon has been sealed inside Hyrule castle for 100 years (coincidentally the same amount of time that Link has been asleep!). The beast has merely been biding his time and gathering strength, and now is set to escape. Only Link can stop him from breaking loose and destroying what’s left of Hyrule for good.

Gameplay: This is the fun part: Breath of the Wild exists in an open-world environment that’s twelve times larger than the famous overworld in Twilight Princess. Fantastic, right? The best part? As Link, you literally get to play around as much as you want. There’s a whole world that Nintendo has created for us to explore and very little instruction is given on how to actually play the game. Instead, the developers have decided to respect the gamer’s intelligence, and have left much of the gameplay up to discovery.

Link now behaves a bit like Ezio (Assassin’s Creed). He can climb and jump on pretty much any surface in the game, including sheer mountainsides. The sky’s the limit in how you choose to play the game. Many objects have multiple uses. You can even use your shield like a snowboard! This is sandbox in its finest form. Sure, you have a defined quest, a set storyline, but in terms of exploration and gameplay…it’s truly up to you this time.

For us fans of Legend of Zelda, this is going to be one truly awesome game. Honestly? I can hardly wait. Can you?

Hey, listen!why don’t you relive some of your favorite nostalgic moments from the game and have a look at all of our best Legend of Zelda tees that we’ve collected from around the web? We’ve got a billion (maybe not quite…but we’ve got a lot!). These tees really do the game justice, and it’d be a tragedy not to show them off.
