Believe it of not, I started writing this blog on my first day at San Diego Comic Con 2017. But it was such a whirlwind of fun adventures, I never had much time to sit and complete my thoughts (and when I did sit at the end of the day, I fell right asleep). So I’m going to do a general sum up of SDCC 2017.
Wednesday Night Preview night is no longer the walk through the park that it used to be. The fans were out in force trying to scoop up exclusives and special products. Even with all that, it was a good night for shopping. Were you there? Did you pick up any fun goodies?
Thursday, the official first day kicked off with a bang for me. I went to Anything Goes with John Barrowman. And he did not hold back. He popped out in a sequined TARDIS dress, complete with sequined Converse high-tops. He was showing his pride at the announcement of the first female Doctor.
The sentiment continued in the Classic Doctor Who panel I attended later that day. Regardless of what you may have heard from other sources, Peter Davison (#5), Colin Baker (#6) and Sophie Aldred were all pro a female Doctor. It was great to take a stroll down Doctor Who memory lane with them.
The panel that had the most buzz was Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Fans are very excited about this sequel to this surprise spy kids hit. There was the addition of some American actors like Channng Tatum, Jeff “the Dude” Bridges and Halle Berre. They even took over the Hard Rock Cafe and offered a free Happy Hour. Pretty swank if you ask me!
For me, Friday was Twin Peaks day. While the rest of the con was enthralled with Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. It was rumored that the comic book will be ending, but according to author, Robert Kirkman, that was a misunderstanding. Just that he knows where it’d going to end.
Walking Dead fans were treated to the new season trailer, which hinted that there was some Rip Van Winkle storyline coming up in Season Eight. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Though I’m sure it was a hoot to see the cast of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, these days, when it comes to things like trailers, they’re released the same time as the panels. So, if you can’t get in, you’re not missing much. That’s why I was happy to attend panels that were more people discussing old movies. Oh, and then watching Twin Peaks episode 11 with members of the cast. THAT’s an experience I’ll remember!
More about my Saturday and Sunday next time!
