Who remembers those old Battle For Middle Earth games? Those were awesome, weren’t they? And what about the early 2000s video games that were voiced by the LOTR actors that followed the storyline of the three films? So many hours were happily spent on those games. They were one of the coolest parts of my childhood, to be honest.
Guess what? T-minus one month and five days until Middle Earth: Shadow of War releases on several gaming platforms. The game is the sequel to 2014’s Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor. It’s an action RPG. Basically, you’ll get to run around Middle Earth like you’ve always wanted. It’s going to be incredible.
Here’s everything we know so far:
Platform: Microsoft Windows, Playstation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android (simplified).
Storyline: Set after the events of Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor, you play as Talion, a ranger of Gondor, who has unique abilities given him by the elf lord, Celbrimbor. Talion has forged a new Ring of Power, believing himself to have the ability to become a powerful king. He uses the power to face the newly returned Dark Lord Sauron and fight his Nazgul-led forces from Mordor.
Gameplay: Shadow of War will be one of the first open-world Lord of the Rings games. The previous game was more of a hack-and-slash gameplay format. This is all-out open-world RPG. The world features a dynamic weather system and a day-night cycle, affecting the gameplay. Followers’ behavior adapts to how the player interacts with them.
The player uses his abilities to fight the Dark Lord’s forces, lay seige to epic fortresses, and uses strategy, cunning, or brute force – depending on your playstyle – to turn Sauron’s fortresses against him. You can build your army, forge alliances, and create enemies. This is the sort of Lord of the Rings game that we’ve never, ever seen before. If you love games like Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and the Witcher – and you’re a huge Tolkien fan, this is one game that you’re not going to want to miss.
It’s currently available for pre-order through several game traders, including Steam. Currently, it’s sold out through the official website.

Psyched for the game? Do you think it’s going to live up to its reputation? Let us know! It’s not often that we’re given the chance to explore more of Tolkien’s world. This game takes a stab at a behind-the-scenes look at what’s going on in the rest of Middle Earth during the LOTR saga. Will they make it awesome? Or will it flop? We suppose we’ll just have to wait and see. Tolkien’s universe is a pretty difficult one to pay tribute to.
