17 Lethal T-Shirts That Go Back to the Origins of Assassin’s Creed

by on Oct 05, 2017

I just recently finished playing through Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, and let me just say that it’s honestly my favorite installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise. So many happy hours were wasted playing as Jacob and Evie, roaming the streets of London, forming my gang and working to catch Jack the Ripper. I don’t think there’s one second of that game that I didn’t enjoy playing.

Sometimes installments of the Assassin’s Creed franchise can be a bit hit or miss, but it certainly looks like the newest one is totally going to be a hit.

2017 welcomes the release of the highly-anticipated Assassin’s Creed: Origins. The game is due to be released in less than a month, on October 27th. Once again, Ubisoft will take us to a never-before-seen chapter of the Assassin’s history: Ancient Egypt. The game features a new main character, new changes to the classic gameplay style, and an all-new highly flavored environment to roam through. Let’s break it down:

Platform: PC, Xbox One, Playstation 4.

Storyline: The player puts his boots on the ground as a Medjay named Bayek. In Ancient Egypt, Medjays were members of the military who worked as scouts and protectors of the Pharoahs – so, basically, the Ancient Egyptian Secret Service.

Bayek lives in a period of upheaval in Egyptian history. The Pharoah, Ptoloemy XIII, struggles to maintain a stable kingdom while his sister, Cleopatra, is marshalling an army to overthrow him. At Ptolomaic Egypt’s borders, Julius Caesar leads forces intent on invading the ancient state.

Bayek and his associates seek to manipulate all of these events. Eventually, this will lead to the forming of the Assassins, with Bayek as the first Assassin in recorded history.

Gameplay: The gameplay for Origins is deviating quite sharply from classic Creed mechanics. Ubisoft has often dealt with complaints about the outdated mechanics and combat. Honestly, Origins looks like it’ll play much more like an RPG than an action-stealth adventure game – for better or worse.

The classic “eagle vision” mode will be replaced with an actual eagle companion named Senu. Players will be able to take control of Senu to scout the surrounding area and discover enemies, but once they return to Bayek, they’ll essentially be flying blind. They’ll have to rely on their own memory of what Senu saw in order to make decisions on how to proceed with the current quest.

Combat will see the biggest overhaul. If you’ve played previous titles, you remember the outdated “paired animation system”, where combat was dictated by a series of predetermined animations based on player inputs and scripted AI. Ubisoft is finally throwing this out in favor of trying out a “hit-box system”. The player will be able to injure specific body parts, and will even be able to miss the enemy entirely.

Enemies will fit different archetypes which the player will be forced to learn if they want to survive. The enemies follow a hit-box system, too, and so the player is equipped with a shield and will need to build both defensive and combative skills.

Personally, I’m excited about this development, but also apprehensive. For me, Assassin’s Creed was never about hand-to-hand combat. The game has always been about stealth, careful planning and strategy, and, of course, one-hit assassinations.

If you’re curious but have some reservations, there’s a whole 30 minutes of gameplay available to watch below:

We’ll let you make up your own opinion about whether or not the hit-box system is a good addition to Creed or not. Let us know in the comments! Are you excited for the game’s release? Hopeful? Worried?
