In just over a month, the remaster of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will ship for PS4.
I don’t know about you, but some of my favorite gaming memories were made with Final Fantasy. The series is considered one of the best RPGs ever made. The storyline’s gripping, the characters stick with you forever, and the visuals are utterly stunning. I remember spending so much time just sitting back and watching the cutscenes, absorbed in the story.
FFXII was just so magical when it was first released. Very few other games had such a rich world. The game pioneered several innovations to the series, including an open world, a seamless battle system and controllable camera, a gambit that allows the player to control how AI behaves in battle, and a license system determining the abilities and equipment used by certain characters.
It was way ahead of its time, and while it wasn’t an easy game to play by any means, that didn’t make it any less fun.
Finally, finally, it’s being updated with state-of-the-art technology to create an experience that’ll be truly magical for everyone involved.
Here’s what we know about the game so far:
Platform: PS4
Storyline: Set in the fictional world of Ivalice, the player follows the story of princess Ashe of Dalmasca, who’s created a resistance movement against the invading kingdom of Archadia. She, her friend Vaan, and a band of other allies rally to fight against the tyranny of the Archadian Empire.
The game features a new job system that’s based around 12 License Boards (replacing the one in the original game). Each represents twelve different available jobs.
Gameplay: The new job system featured in the remaster allows the player to assign a role to a character. These roles will expand into stat growth opportunities and give the player’s character unique skills. There’s a new trial mode, game plus feature, and HD upgrades for backgrounds, character models, font, and movie scenes. The game has both English and Japanese audio, and the player can switch between the two in the game’s settings. They’ve also improved the loading times, high-speed mode, and added an auto-save function (thank god!).
Release Date: July 11th, 2017.
