The Harry Potter series recently celebrated its 20th birthday this year. For most of us, Harry Potter was a cherished part of our childhood. Your Hogwarts House was (and, to be honest, probably still is) a sacred part of your personality.

If you haven’t taken the almighty Sorting Hat Quiz yet, you might want to. Or maybe you already know in your heart what house you truly belong in, and don’t need a silly talking hat to tell you who your squad is. Let’s be real, Harry really should have been in Slytherin. Ron should have been in Hufflepuff. Hermoine should have been in Ravenclaw. They all were sorted into Gryffindor because that was the house they wanted, in their hearts, to be sorted into.

So, what about you. You’re certainly a talented wizard or witch. Which Hogwarts house do you belong in?

Gryffindor

“You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart;”

Let’s admit it: Gryffindor was the house most of us really wanted to be in, because the Big Three were all in Gryffindor. House Gryffindor was founded by Godric Gryffindor when Hogwarts was created. It’s known for bravery, daring, and chivalry.

While Harry, Ron, and Hermione are certainly notable Gryffindors, others include: Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Dumbledore, McGonagall, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black, and Parvati Patil.

Hufflepuff

“You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil;”

Hufflepuff used to be the least favorite house of the four. Of course, that all ended when J.K. Rowling herself announced that her favorite house was Hufflepuff. The Hufflepuffs were the only members of Hogwarts to willingly fight alongside Harry without having to be persuaded at the Battle of Hogwarts. The house is defined by their loyalty and hard work.

Notable characters include: Newton Scamander, Cedric Diggory, Nymphadora Tonks, Pomona Sprout, Silvanus Kettleburn, and Teddy Lupin.

Ravenclaw

“Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
If you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind;”

House Ravenclaw’s the place for the truly bookish among us to find good company. Members of this house are characterized by wit, learning, and wisdom. Oddly, the symbol of this house isn’t a raven, like you’d assume. Nope, it’s an eagle.

Notable members include: Luna Lovegood, Sybil Trelawney, Cho Chang, Gilderoy Lockhart (…really? Did he obliviate the Sorting Hat?), Filius Flitwick, and Myrtle Warren.

Slytherin

“Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
These cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.”

Slytherin, understandably, gets a bad rep. It’s important to remember that House Slytherin is not synonymous with evil. Instead, the house was intended to be based around cunning, wit, and ambition. Unfortunately, the pure-blood supremacy catastrophe kind of eclipsed everything else.

Notable characters include: Draco Malfoy, Tom Riddle (of course!), Severus Snape, Bellatrix Lestrange, Regulus Black, Rita Skeeter, and Horace Slughorn.
